Harrar an ancient crumbling walled city now a World Heritage site lies on what once was an important early trading route. The city is at the centre of a fertile agricultural area world famous for its coffee production. It was almost certainly from Harrar that the very first coffees to travel outside Ethiopia were traded and transported by Yemeni merchants crossing between Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
Harrar Coffee is still grown in the traditional way, often intercropped with maize and other grains in small garden style plots. After harvesting the beans are dry processed (sun dried) on long mats raised from the ground. This method gives the coffee it’s very individual and distinctive flavour. Harrar is like no other coffee and highly sought after.
We are really pleased with this particular lot - it’s a Top Notch Classic Harrar and really one of the best we have tasted in a long while. The usual Medium/Full Body but this one’s a little bit more Nutty with a flash of Caramel popping through. Nice Chocolatey Mouth-feel and a really nice aroma - lots of comfort in the cup.
Highly recommended.
